The university, as it is conceived in the 21st century, has, in addition to its teaching responsibility, the mission to conduct research, as well as pass on the resulting knowledge to society. This is why the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) reports its achievements in these areas every year. If we analyze the data for 2012, we see that the funds raised for competitive R&D stood at 4.9 million euros, while contracted R&D with businesses and institutions reached 2.2 million euros. These quantities, along with that obtained for infrastructure (1.55 million euros) and that destined for grants (1.25 million euros), make the combined resources raised for 2012 total 9.9 million euros.
Scientific activity is reflected in 1,132 publications, of which 712 were scientific papers in international journals and 249 were chapters in research books. To this, the successful defense of 71 doctoral theses must be added.
The Vice Rectorate for Research and Innovation, through the Single Call for Support for Research and Technology Transfer, seeks to promote and strengthen the activity developed by the University's research groups. Likewise, in collaboration with the Fundación Quórum, it has set in motion in the Nau de la Innovació several stimulus programs for entrepreneurship as a mechanism for transferring knowledge.
