Externalizing disorders (aggressive behavior, negativism, and Conduct) in childhood and adolescecencia are very common reason for consultation in the children's clinic, which requires knowledge and skills for evaluation and treatment.
Competencies and learning outcomes
- Be able to recognize and accept the ambiguity and complexity of psychological problems, as well as the tentative nature of their explanations and social context where they occur.
- Formulate hypotheses, assess information, and promote viable solutions to professional cases and situations.
- Be able to analyze, evaluate, and assess individual and collective situations, identify problems, interpret data, and formulate solutions to individual or collective problems.
- Apply ethics and deontological principles to the profession, considering user rights.
- Know how to select and apply different types of psychological tests in childhood and adolescence.
- Be able to properly apply diagnostic criteria for different psychological disorders in children and youth.
- Know how to establish a treatment plan from predictions made about the child or adolescent and the psychological knowledge.
- Know how to monitor a child and/or adolescent clinical case, choosing appropriate and realistic goals.
- Choose and select the most appropriate child/adolescent psychological intervention techniques in each case in order to achieve the objectives.
- Know how to apply direct intervention strategies and methods in children and adolescents: construction of healthy scenarios, prevention of problems, and quality of life.
- Know how to apply indirect intervention strategies and methods through other people (parents, teachers, etc.): counseling, training teachers, and other agents.
- Know how to provide feedback to children/adolescents and their families in an appropriate and accurate manner.
Objectives (Learning outcomes)
- Knowing the theoretical models of externalizing disorders (aggressive behavior, negativism, and Conduct) in childhood and adolescence.
- Acquire the skills necessary to perform a psychological evaluation that allows us to design a program intevención and valuation.
Methodology and grading
- Case studies: Learning through the analysis of actual or simulated cases in order to interpret and resolve them by employing various alternative solution procedures.
- Lecture: Pass on knowledge and activate cognitive processes in students, encouraging their participation.
- Problem-based learning: Develop active learning strategies through problem solving that promote thinking, experimentation, and decision making in the student.
- Solving exercises and problems: Exercise, test, and apply previous knowledge through routine repetition.
- The evaluation system is as follows:
a)-Exam (50%): 20 questions with 3 choices of response. The correction system is PD = A - (E/k-1) / (number of items/10), where A is the number of correct answers, E the mistakes, and k the number of options. You need a 5 to pass the exam. b)-Portfolio (30%): activities conducted in class and other activities indicated by the professor. The portfolio assesses the practical content. To correct the portfolio must have attended 80% of classes.
c)-Teaching online (20%): activities in the virtual platform led by the teacher.
The extraordinary exams in September and December will consist in an exam on the theoretical contents (50%) and an exam on the applied contents (50%).
