Professional interest

Statistical techniques within the field of Health Sciences represent a support for evidence-based decision making provided by the data. Quantitative methods can be used to help solve problems, design and collect data, identify factors that explain the keys to problems, develop intervention / prevention strategies, establish policies / priorities and the development of implementation and evaluation processes.

General competencies

Ability to analyze, evaluate, and assess individual and group situations, identify problems, interpret data, and formulate solutions to individual and/or group problems.

Acquire and utilize epidemiological data and assess trends and risks to base decision making about health.

Professional competencies

Know and understand the existing legal and administrative framework for the functions and responsibilities of the occupational therapy professional, using socio-economic resources properly.
Understand the Spanish health system and the basic aspects related to the management of health services, fundamentally those that are related to rehabilitation issues.
Understand, evaluate, analyze, develop, and participate in health education and promotion within the scope of occupational therapy to prevent occupational dysfunction in general and subsequent to medical, surgical, and psychiatric disorders and social maladjustment.
Adapt and apply the occupational therapy process in close collaboration with individuals and populations, acquiring capabilities to intervene in projects of promotion, prevention, and protection with a community and public health approach.

Methodology and grading

Methodology

Case studies: Learning through the analysis of actual or simulated cases in order to interpret and resolve them by employing various alternative solution procedures.
Lecture: Pass on knowledge and activate cognitive processes in students, encouraging their participation.

Grading

The evaluation of the subject will be done on a total of 100 points, and in obtaining the final grade (CF), the following grades must be taken into account: NEFa = Block A final exam (up to 70 points), NEFb = Note of block b of the final exam (up to 25 points), NST = Tracking note of the subject (up to 5 points) and NEC = Continuous assessment activities note (up to 25 points)
To obtain the NEC score, 4 self-test tests will be carried out, two of them linked to the practical sessions, which students will answer electronically in a period of no more than 5 hours. In order to be able to add the grade of each self-assessment test in the final mark, at least 60% of the mark must be obtained.
It is an essential requirement to add the self-assessments to obtain 30 or more points in the block a of the final exam, ie, NEFa> = 30. The final grade of the subject will be obtained as follows:
* If NEFa>=30 then CF=NEFa+NST+min(25,NEFb+NEC)
* If NEFa<30 then CF=NEFa+NEFb+NST
