This course provides tools in the search for and critical evaluation of evidence for making both therapeutic and preventive clinical decisions.
It focuses on intervention studies that provide higher quality evidence for making decisions (randomized clinical trials and systems reviews of randomized trials). Its successive teaching units examine the conceptual framework of making decisions based on evidence, the assessment of the quality of the evidence, and its application to the individual patient.
Upon course conclusion, each student must be capable of finding and critically assessing the appropriate literature for making decisions on matters of prevention or treatment in the health sciences.

Methodology and grading
- Lecture: Pass on knowledge and activate cognitive processes in students, encouraging their participation.
- Problem-based learning: Develop active learning strategies through problem solving that promote thinking, experimentation, and decision making in the student.
- Project-based learning: Completion of a project to solve a problem, applying acquired learning and promoting abilities related to planning, design, performing activities, and reaching conclusions.
- Solving exercises and problems: Exercise, test, and apply previous knowledge through routine repetition.
- 1. Resolution of 5 short exercises on topics covered in UNIT 1 60%, which should be for finished 24 hours from 12:00 am. (60% of the mark). The exercises will appear on the blog of the subject (assessment/exam tab online).
2- Criticism Reading of two scientific articles (UNIT 2) one randomized clinical trial, another systematic review and filling in the template described in the work of the student of unit 2. This activity have to be coordinated by your academic tutor and must be which will evaluate your work (40%). The template must be sent to the academic tutor.
Minimum criteria to pass the course: make the critical reading of the two scientific papers (UNIT 2) and 50 per cent of the maximum score of 5 short exercises based on the material of the UNIT 1.
