Description

Integrated Workshops II is a third-year course that incorporates 8 clinical disciplines presented in the preceding two semesters, including general pathology, general bases of surgery, clinical pharmacology, immunology and allergies, dermatology, epidemiology and health demographics, microbiology, obstetrics, and ophthalmology. This course imparts various teaching activities to integrate clinical knowledge and skills from several disciplines and to foster the acquisition of transversal competencies.

Competencies and learning outcomes

General competencies

Understand and recognize the effects, mechanisms, and manifestations of disease on the structure and function of the human body.
Understand and recognize causative agents and risk factors that determine health status and disease development.
Comprehend and recognize the effects of growth, development, and aging on the individual and his/her social environment.
Understand the basics of action, indications, and efficacy of therapeutic interventions based on available scientific evidence.
Acquire and develop a medical history that contains all the relevant information.
Perform a physical examination and mental health assessment.
Be capable of formulating an initial diagnosis and establishing a rational diagnostic strategy.

Acquire appropriate clinical experience in hospitals, clinics, and other health care institutions, under supervision, as well as basic knowledge of patient-centered health management and the appropriate use of tests, medications, and other health system resources.
Listen attentively, obtaining and synthesizing information relevant to the problems affecting the patient, understanding the content of this information.
Write case histories and other medical records that are comprehensible to third parties.

Objectives (Learning outcomes)

01Consolidation of the knowledge and skills acquired in the subjects taught previous courses
02Perform a history full of a clinical case reaching a syndromic diagnosis and considering an approach and basic treatment for picture
03Development and integration of skills of reasoning and clinical decision-making in different subjects
04Check scan tests and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as well as vital parameters to determine and interpret them
05Recognize special clinical situations of the clinical cases submitted, solving, integrating or informing the bodies or services involved.
06Consider professional situations from the biological, clinical, ethical and sociological points of view
07Develop cooperative learning and interpersonal communication skills
08Acquire self-learning techniques to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge continuously

Methodology and grading

Methodology

Case studies: Learning through the analysis of actual or simulated cases in order to interpret and resolve them by employing various alternative solution procedures.
Cooperative learning: Develop active learning through cooperative working strategies among students and promote shared responsibility to reach group goals.
Problem-based learning: Develop active learning strategies through problem solving that promote thinking, experimentation, and decision making in the student.
Project-based learning: Realization of a project to solve a problem, applying acquired learning and promoting abilities related to planning, design, performing activities, and reaching conclusions.

Grading

The systems and criteria of evaluation of the subject, it is has been chosen to evaluate the following:

-Skills in Clinical Medicine: clinical stories (qualifications and tutors of practical clinical observation reports) = 25%.

-Skills (tabs) surgery, obstetrics, pharmacology, public health, dermatology, microbiology and attended the seminar of Ophthalmology = 20%. [You must send all the tabs]

-Presentations on Pechakucha Day (complementary exploration) and workshop of images in Medicine. And assistance of the simulation workshops, microbiology, obstetrics and public health = 15%. * [must attend all seminars and workshops]

-Participation in the test of Clinical Competence Assessment Objective and Structured (ECOE) = 40%. It will consist of 5 stations overcome. Each station will have a duration of 9 minutes time between station 1 minute. The total length will be 50 minutes

Extraordinary score by participation to the Symposium on Clinical Cases:

- Participation with the preparation of the abstract and the preparation with the poster presentation = + 0.7 points to the obtained note.

- Students of the best five clinical cases = + 0.5 points of the mark obtained.

- Attendance at the Symposium = + 0.3 points of the mark obtained.

Assessment test characteristics

Prueba ECOE

-      Consistirá en superar 5 estaciones. Tres del área de Medicina, una de Cirugía y otra de Obstetricia.

-      Cada estación tendrá una duración de 9 minutos

-      Tiempo entre estación de 1 minutos.

-      La duración total será de 50 minutos.

- Juicio clínico, diagnóstico y pronóstico
- Habilidades técnicas y procedimientos
Cada estación tiene 15-30 ítems evaluativos
- cada estación tiene un total de 100 puntos
- La nota de la prueba ECOE es sobre 500
