Technology of optical communications, components, transmission means, and techniques used for broadband communications.
Optical communication systems represent not only a basic tool for long-haul data transmission, but also a powerful alternative for dsitribution and access of wideband services. In this course we study the basic properties of the guided channel, its transmission, reception, distribution and multiplexing elements, the performance evaluation of single-channel systems both in analog and digital formats, and an introduction to multiplexed systems.
