Within the framework of university autonomy established by Law 6/2001 of Universities, universities may create specific structures that support teaching and research. These include its chairs, whose conditions for establishment and operation are regulated by the Framework Regulation for Chairs at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.
Chairs are collaboration structures of the University with public or private entities for the development of training activities, generation of knowledge, dissemination or technology transfer in a particular cultural, scientific, or technical area.
Chairs may arise at the initiative of the Rector, or be proposed by companies or other non-corporate entities or individuals. In these latter cases, the chair will be set up by the signing of an agreement between the parties.
Economic contributions for the creation and maintenance of chairs may entail tax incentives if such contributions meet the requirements of applicable law.
