The university, as it is conceived for the 21st century, has, in addition to its educational responsibility, the mission to advance research and pass on the resulting knowledge to society. This is why the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) reports its achievements in these areas every year. If the data for 2017 is analyzed, it shows that the funding acquired for competitive R&D projects stood at 4.4 million euros, while contracted R&D with entities reached 2.3 million. Structural funds accounted for 490,000 euros, and 1.1 million corresponded to research grants. In all, the resources acquired by the UMH for 2017 in areas of research amounted to more than 8 million euros.
UMH scientific activity is reflected in 1,699 publications, and these include 1,149 scientific papers in specialized journals and 86 books. Likewise, almost 300 doctoral theses were defended and 16 patents and other exclusive rights were applied for. These figures represent significant increases with respect to the previous year.
