This master's program lasts two academic years and is structured in the following manner:
1) Basic Module (6 ECTS credits). This is comprised of one subject matter containing a single 6-credit course called Psychology in the Health Context. It examines scientific and professional fundamentals of psychological practice within the health field.
2) Specific Module (33 credits). This covers assessment and diagnosis in health psychology from the physiological and psychological perspective, intervention in health problems, and basic skills training in general health psychology. This includes two subject matters:
a) Assessment and Intervention in Health Problems (22.5 credits).
b) Basic Skills for the General Health Psychologist (10.5 credits).
3) Elective Module: Two electives with scientific and health contents permit the student to learn some of the areas of action and the application of the scientific method to the field of general health psychology. Students choose at least 9 credits from the electives offered:
a) Career opportunities in health psychology (9 credits). This is comprised of the following courses that are offered as electives: Pediatric Psychology (4.5 credits) and Psychology of Emergencies and Critical Care (4.5 credits).
b) Research in General Health Psychology (9 credits). This matter is presented for students who wish to expand upon the application of the scientific method. It also includes two courses that are offered as electives: Research Techniques and Data Analysis in Psychology (4.5 credits) and Scientific Documentation, Research Projects and Dissemination of Results (4.5 credits).
4) Practicum Module (30 credits). This contains training bearing the same name. The internships take place at public university hospitals and centers that comply with Article 15.4 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 in accordance with the conditions established in the agreement of the Council of Ministers of May 31, 2013, published in Spain's Official State Gazette (BOE) on June 4, 2013, and in Order ECD/1070/2013, of 12 June. There are internships in different fields of health psychology: psycho-oncology, addictions, neuropsychology, psychogeriatrics, palliative care, rehabilitation psychology, psychology in bariatric surgery, eating disorders, mental health.
The internships are carried out at centers authorized and registered at the registry of health centers in the Valencian Community. They are supervised by psychologists holding either master's degrees in general health psychology, specialists in clinical psychology, or psychologists who are temporarily registered for carrying out health activities in accordance with Section 2 of the Additional Provision 6.a of Law 5/2011, of 29 March, of social economy.
For students enrolled in the master's program who have successfully completed the first year of specialized health training (Formación Sanitaria Especializada, PIR), the credits corresponding to the external internships that are pending will be recognized by universities.
5) Final Master's Project Module (12 credits). Students may not defend their Final Master's Project until they have successfully completed at least 75% of the program's credits.
