Access
For access to official master's education, applicants must hold either an official Spanish university degree or one conferred by a higher education institution in a country belonging to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that entitles access to master's education in such country.
Access may also be granted to those possessing a degree from an educational system outside the EHEA, without requiring its homologation, but following verification by the UMH that the degree represents an educational level that is equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degree and that it entitles access to graduate education within the issuing country.
Access this way does not mean, under any circumstance, homologation of the degree the interested party holds, or its recognition for anything besides acceptance into a master's program. (Article 16 of Royal Decree 861/2010, of 2 July, which amends Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, establishing the organization of official university education.)
Admissions
Although diplomados or licenciados in areas related to the health sciences would seem to be natural profiles for inclusion in the master's program (medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, nutrition, food science and technology, podiatry, labor relations, occupational therapy), persons possessing any undergraduate degree (for example, statistics, psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, engineering, law, education and teaching, journalism) are suitable.
Prior training that is more apt includes minimum knowledge of statistics and epidemiology. Basic knowledge of English is also recommended.
Student selection for admission into the program will be carried out in accordance with applicants' curricula vitae, including their undergraduate grades. A minimum number of places will be reserved for Valencian Community preventive medicine and public health medical residents who seek a place in the Public Health Master's Program by the UMH and UA, as it is a requirement for their medical residency training.
Publicizing the programs and their admission criteria will occur by various means, and include, among others, the necessary institutional collaboration between the UMH and UA universities for this dissemination by the methods they usually employ, for which specific material will be prepared.
There will also be dissemination more professional in nature that is based on our previous experience via professional publications, scientific societies, and scientific journals, which also include the use of mailing lists that are related to the areas involved.
Lastly, flyers will be printed with a format similar to that used in previous editions that will be mailed out. In the admission process, a master's pre-registration takes place in both June and September. For this pre-registration, applicants will be asked for their curriculum in order to be able to assess the preferred selection criteria.
The criteria under assessment are:
1. Academic record for the required degree. Taken into consideration are the grades received in the courses from the degree(s) that the applicant possesses. This accounts for 50% of the final assessment.
2. Professional career in that related to public health, including publications, production of reports or previous work experiences related to public health. This accounts for 30% of the final assessment.
3. Other criteria taken into account include knowledge of languages having a scientific interest (English) and previous training in specific areas such as epidemiology and statistics courses taken in degree programs providing access to the master's program and/or in graduate courses. These account for 20% of the final assessment (a maximum 10% for languages and 10% for previous training).
The criteria being assessed will be published on the bulletin boards at campus management centers and classroom concierges, as well as the universities' webpages. A selection process will be applied whenever the number of applicants is greater than the total number of places available in the program; if this does not occur, all applicants who meet the profile will be admitted. The maximum number of students to be admitted into the program is 40, and the minimum number for the program to be implemented is 10.
