General competencies
- Demonstrate systematic competence in the field of international health and mastery of research methods and skills related to international and global health.
Specific competencies
- Know how to request microbiological tests, interpret the results of microbiological diagnostic techniques and the study of antibiotic activity, and be able to perform fundamental techniques for rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases.
- Demonstrate the ability to clinically use antibiotics (antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and antiviral) in order to design, plan, and implement programs for their management in different healthcare environments.
- Understand the accuracy of the primary diagnostic tests used in infectious diseases and international health, including microbiological, biochemical, and radiological analysis, and their conditions of use.
- Demonstrate competence in the field of clinical infectious diseases and mastery of healthcare methods and skills related to community-acquired infections, and acquire basic skills to begin research tasks
Objectives (Learning outcomes)
- MICROBIOLOGY: 1) Understand the principles of the microbiological diagnosis of infectious diseases. (2) Know the process most common samples for Microbiological studies. (3) Know-how microscopic techniques more common in a Microbiology Laboratory (Gram, Zhiel-neelsen stain, Giemsa, parasitological examination). Recognize the importance of blood cultures Preanalytical phase and bacteriology general (including respiratory and General signs), as well as the General aspects of the taking of muestras. 5) Meet biosafety standards and the system of work in a laboratory of clinical microbiological diagnosis.
- ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY: 1) Know the classification, mechanism of action, microbiological profile, and the pharmacological profile of the main antimicrobial. 2) Know the basis for the clinical use of the antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic and antiviral drugs in the most frequent infections. 3)Antibiotic policy knowledge and AMT.

Methodology
- Case studies: Learning through the analysis of actual or simulated cases in order to interpret and resolve them by employing various alternative solution procedures.
- Lecture: Pass on knowledge and activate cognitive processes in students, encouraging their participation.
- Problem-based learning: Develop active learning strategies through problem solving that promote thinking, experimentation, and decision making in the student.
- Solving exercises and problems: Exercise, test, and apply previous knowledge through routine repetition.
Grading
- There will be held a face to face, written, type test exam, with multiple choice (five answer options and only one correct answer) that will consist of 25 questions covering the specific contents of the subject.
Operational activities will be evaluated through reports of observation (assessment based on observation of the response or activity of the student during practices). The evaluation will be completed with exercises resolution of cases and problems, and the participation of the student in the course Forum.
The rating system will be over 100:
-Test exam mark: 50%
- Attendance the theoretical and practical classroom activities: 20%
- Tasks/participation in the Forum of the subject: 30%
