The development of bioactive molecules for human and animal health is one the fields with larger growth in biotechnology and pharmacology. Furthermore, in a society that values so much the image, the development of cosmeceutics and nutracéuticos is continuously increasing, thus becoming an area for the applications of biotechnological knowledge. Accordingly, training in biotechnology requires a course that teaches the skills and strategies to endow with biological activity to synthetic molecules as well as natural extracts from different sources (plants and microorganisms). Similarly, it is fundamental that the student know the scientific and regulatory aspects involved in the development of bioproducts as therapeutic drugs for the treatment of diseases or cosmeceutics or nutracéuticos for wealth and skin conditions. The course will cover all these aspects, trying to provide an integral training to students on the development of therapeutic drugs and cosmeceutics, from the discovery phase to the human trials and commercialization. It will emphasize the regulatory and harmonization aspects to consider in the development, as well as the strategies to protect the invention, their valorization and exploitation. The design and development of biosensors will not be covered because it will be taught in another course.
