Description

Hydrostatics and hydrodynamics. Pipe sizing and stamping. Pumping systems. Design and calculation of open lines (channels). Hydrometry. Surface and groundwater hydrology.

Professional attributions of Architects and Engineers are regulated by Law 12/1986 of April 1st. According to the second article of this law the Engineers have the following professional attributions: "a) The drafting and signing of projects aimed at the construction, alteration, repair, maintenance, demolition, manufacturing, assembly, installation or operation of personal property or real state in their respective cases, both as main or secondary character, provided that they remain covered due to their nature and characteristics, by the proper technique for each degree. "Hydraulics deals with the basic skills to undertake the design of works and facilities that are basic elements of irrigation projects, drip irrigation systems, sprinkler irrigation systems, landscaping facilities, small reservoirs, and sanitation and drainage facilities.

Adequate knowledge of the physical problems, technologies, equipment, and water and energy supply systems, the limits imposed by budgetary factors and building regulations, the relationships between installations and/or buildings with farms, agro-food industries, and spaces related to gardening and landscaping with their social and environmental surroundings, as well as the need to relate those from that environment with human needs and environmental protection.
Ability to lead the execution of works on projects related to agri-food industries, farms, green spaces and their facilities, infrastructure and installations, the prevention of risks associated with their execution, and the direction of multidisciplinary teams and human resources management in accordance with ethical standards.

01Knowing the properties of hydrostatic pressure,the main equipments used for pressure measurement and the fundamentals of thrust calculation as a basis for designing dams and reservoirs
02Knowing the basic equations of fluid motion
03Solving problems of simple water pipes, pipes with singular elements and series and parallel piping systems
04Identify materials used in agricultural hydraulic systems and the criteria applicable for their selection
05Select pumps or pumps associations that meet the system requirements
06Calculate the over-pressure caused by water hammer in elevations and gravity pipes
07Describe the protections against water hammer generally used in agricultural facilities
08Knowing the methodology and issues to take into account in channel design for steady flow
09Explain the principles of operation of the main types of gauges in both open and closed conduits
010Show the foundamentals of the hydrologic processes of water cycle, and their influence on the control and water management in agriculture.

Methodology

Case studies: Learning through the analysis of actual or simulated cases in order to interpret and resolve them by employing various alternative solution procedures.
Cooperative learning: Develop active learning through cooperative working strategies among students and promote shared responsibility to reach group goals.
Lecture: Pass on knowledge and activate cognitive processes in students, encouraging their participation.
Problem-based learning: Develop active learning strategies through problem solving that promote thinking, experimentation, and decision making in the student.
Solving exercises and problems: Exercise, test, and apply previous knowledge through routine repetition.

Grading

The evaluation system will be: Single Evaluation.
- For the students who attend laboratory practices and delivery of the internship report, the exam will be written in two parts: a) problems (60%) and b) theory (10%) and practices (10%), with rest from 5 minutes between them.
  Practice report (10%).
- For students who do not attend laboratory practices, the exam will be written and will be done in two parts: a) problems (60%) and b) theory (10%) and theoretical exam of practices (20%), with rest of 5 minutes between them.
In addition, a group work (maximum 3 students) must be submitted and presented during the academic year, which is compulsory for all students. The characteristics, theme, content of this work will be inserted into a message and explained in class. With a maximum score of 10%.

Assessment test characteristics

The subject matter will consist of the syllabus included in the program and explained during the academic year.
The examination of problems will consist in the resolution of three or four problems, according to difficulty; with an approximate duration of 120 minutes.
The theory exam will consist of several short questions or test type (maximum 10); with an approximate duration of 10 minutes.
The practical exam will consist of several short questions (maximum 5); with an approximate duration of 10 minutes.
The students who had not attended the practices should indicate this to the teacher before beginning the exam, which will make an examination of long questions (3 or 4), where all the theoretical content that appears in the practices will enter; with an approximate duration of 60 minutes.

Correction criteria

In all the parts that make up the single evaluation, the questions answered poorly do not remain.

For the students that attend laboratory practices and delivery of the internship report:
The grade of the subject will be the sum of the note of the exams of problems, theory and practices. In addition, the marks obtained in the group work (10%) and that of the internship report (10%) will be added.
The grade obtained in the evaluation of the internship report will be added to the previous note (exams of problems, theory, practices and note of group work); as long as it is greater than 4.

To have the right to take the internship exam it is essential to have attended the internship (minimum 80% attendance).

For students who do not attend laboratory practices:
The grade for the course will be the sum of the exams for problems (60%), theory (10%) and practical exams (20%). In addition, the marks obtained in the group work (10%) will be added.

Additional requirements

It is recommended to bring calculator, square, bevel, scale, pencil, ballpoint pen and eraser. IF YOU HAVE A MILLIMETRATED PAPER, IT WILL BE SUPPLIED WITH THE EXAMINATION STATEMENT. Any other type of material (notes, mobiles, books, bags or backpacks, etc.) should be left on the stage when entering the classroom.
