Muscle physiology. Structure of striated muscle. Neuromuscular junction. Motor unit. Muscle contraction: sliding filament theory. Excitation-contraction coupling. Smooth muscle. Features and types of smooth muscle. Contraction. Control of Contraction.
Nervous system. Nervous system organization. Sensory systems: general. Sensory transduction mechanisms. Efferent nervous system: autonomic and somatic motor control.
Introduction to the Endocrine System I. General characteristics of hormones. Function and classification. Peptide or protein hormones, steroid, catecholamines and thyroid hormones.
Introduction to the endocrine system II. Parathyroid hormone. The hypothalamus and pituitary. Posterior pituitary or neurohypophysis. Anterior pituitary or adenohypophysis. Pineal gland.
